With Satan on waivers and if you trade staal that frees up 7.5 mil…that is a lot to work with. Edit: Satan would be pro-rated this season and Staal’s new contract would not be in effenct. I meant for next season and beyond. ---

i wouldnt want sykora gone either, if possible, but im just sayin you never know. we have some guys in the ahl/ in the system that they r gonna want up here next year, i assume…caputi, tangradi etc. and they come cheap for the moment, so shero might not want to resign sykora or might not hesitate to let one of our veterans go (like a talbot) in a trade package in order to bring someone big-name in here. who knows. the satan on waivers is interesting. makes me think a big move may be in order ---

It’s 7.5 million of which we can NOT fit under the cap for the duration of this year. You’re going to have guys off the books like Garon, Fedetenko, Sykora, Satan, Zigomanis, Minard, Gill, Scuderi, and Boucher. Also remember you’re going to have increased cap hits from guys like Staal, Malkin, Kunitz, Fluery, and Talbot (who are all recieving increases in salary from this year to next, so their cap hits will adjust) From what I’m reading on an NHL salary cap website, the Pens should have roughly $15 million to spend on next seasons team but they will need 3 forwards 2 defensemen 1 backup goaltender and then fill in the other 2 roster spots with guys from the minors. My best guess (and this is just a total guess) is that you give Sykora $3mill for the next two seasons. That gets you down to $11 million. Sign Scuderi for a million for 2 years, that gets you down to $10, sign some other jabroni defenseman to be your 6th or 7th guy (depending on Goligoski) for $750k, pickup a decent backup goalie for around a mill a season, that get you down to a little over $8 million, sign another fill in forward for $1.5, now your down to like $6.5 to 7 million under the cap, and usually they say you want to leave around $2.5 under just in case of injury and stuff like that so that leaves you roughly $3.5 to $4 million to try and pickup a winger that can be of use to Sid. I dunno. I think, looking at it that way, you almost have to move Staal, or we’re going to end up like Tampa Bay. Staal gives you the leverage to make a move for a winger, and then use that extra $4 million to pickup a better defenseman than Scuderi, a better backup goalie, and maybe a more meaningful fill in forward in the $2million range instead. But then again this is why Shero gets the big bucks. ---

so you are telling me im ridiculous to suggest that we trade staal and maybe make another move right now for a big-name winger but you can sit there and speculate the run-down of the team’s restructuring from now until some-time next season…lol. ok:wtcslap: ---

Today will be interesting. While lostening to DVE this morning they were talking about how Tampa wants to trade Malone…they said whatever the package is they want a 1st round draft pick. Not sure if I would do it with his salary…I mean odds are we could have signed him for less last season and now he is being paid top dollar (5.25 mil cap hit)…but if he did come back I would be stoked. ---

Malone is WAY overpaid. No one is going to want to pick up that contract. Not that I blame the guy for taking the money. He is just going to suffer down in TB for a long time ---

Been looking good for the past month…from 2/4 - 3/3 we were 9-3-1. That’s points in 10 out of 13 games and 19 out of a possible 26 points. Huge game tomorrow…The panthers are fighting just as hard as us to get into the playoffs as well. ---
