I’d try restoring to the factory default through Odin.

This one is for LZ:

> According to a report out of ComputerWorld, Google baked a new security app scanner into 4.2, because many of you continue to install apps that aren’t from the Google Play store. All of those sideloaded apps that we post or that you find in shady dark alleys of the internet, will be scanned remotely on Google servers almost instantaneously. If the app is clean, you’ll proceed. If the app gets flagged, your phone will then warn you and let you decide if you want to proceed. This new app scanning service is optional and must be activated or it won’t run.

This for sure. I’m meant for a land line with the hand crank and asking an operator to dial for me.

I was beyond anything so simple. I had to restore a couple of boot chain files through odin, then a factory image, without the sim installed, then boot up, reinstall the sim, then factory reset via _2727_3855# or whatever it was to restore my IMEI or something, all while standing on one foot chanting death to apple under a harvest moon. I don’t really know what I did, but I got it working again. I’m staying factory. I’ve had enough of the half baked custom roms that add a few moderately useful features while invariably other shit doesn’t work right and possibly fucking up my phone. I’m done. Samsung really did a good job with the software on this phone. I’m sticking with it.

Yeah me too, but the rom itself is really really good. The keyboard sucks, but you can download swiftkey or the stock android keyboard from the market or sign up for swype beta. So that doesn’t matter. It’s fast. Everything works well. Audio SQ is good through headphones (some roms suck ass here). Battery life is as good as the best roms/kernels I’ve used.

Other than the fun of playing with something new, Samsung really didn’t leave any compelling reason to run a custom rom other than to get new google features before the carrier releases them. (i.e. google now with it’s kick ass voice search and offline dictation). With the custom touchwiz roms there’s always something that’s broken, and the AOSP roms have shitty cameras, data drops everywhere, and the speakerphone echos so bad its useless. The fuck’s the point?

^ I rooted and was really close to romming but decided not to based on reading lots of posts like this. I’ll continue to root so I can use Titanium Backup though. Android’s stock backup/restore capability is just horrible.

I maybe a n00b, but does Titanium (free) do application backups where I don’t have to click install and OK for the permissions when I restore them? Last time I used it on my nexus I had to do that for like 75+ apps.

I use AppBak for that, it saves a list of your apps for one-click restores after a reflash…

Is it free? Normally I don’t give a shit about my apps and data and just wipe the entire thing. But now I have tasker with multiple profiles and some other apps that took a while to configure.

Smart. On my Droid X custom roms were significantly better than the stock motorola ROM, but Samsung’s stock ROM is so good that there’s really no point. You wind up trading minor customizations for minor to major bugs.

Im on Verizon and my contracts about up. I’ve been holding out for phone for a bit now. I have to buy off contract and just keep a month to month because I refuse to lose unlimited data.

Was hoping the Nexus 4 would hit Verizon but it didn’t so was debating between a Galaxy S3 or a Razr Maxx HD… but saw this leaked.

Hoping it launches with what everyone thinks it will have. Should be a pretty nice phone. I can’t handle my Thunderbolt anymore.
