Went out today dident see a single cop out near gallager/ Hamburg area. Doubt they are in enforcing this. People were being stupid down there today.

Got out tonight for about an hour and a half for the first time this year…machine ran great…
Some of you may recall, last year I was having some issues where the machine would periodically cut out on me after an hour or so of riding, often restarting right away, but as the season went on, it was getting harder to restart. Ended up taking it to Anchor Marine and had them replace my fuel selector valve (used one that I provided), and water test to confirm it was the culprit. They also ended up adjusting the carb. I never got it in the water after that, as it was late September, so having it out tonight running perfect was def. a nice feeling…
One question…maybe this is a case where they all do this, but here goes…do you guys with 2 stroke machines like mine have starting issues, or does your machine always fire right up? Mine usually starts up fine, but sometimes I have to give it a little throttle while cranking…just wondering if we all have this issue…

Got out for a short run last night to test out the new prop (Turning Point 4 blade, 14" 19p) and it’s the winner. Boat holeshots like a scared cat even with the trim up and still got into the low 50’s running into the wind with my bimini top wrapped in it’s cover but in the upright position acting like a giant air brake. Getting the doge used to the boat too.

She begged me not to toss her off the tube because the water is still pretty cold and it wasn’t that warm out on the water last night. Came close a couple times but I was good and backed off before she lost her grip.

My fathers 2 stroke is a little finicky, He cleans the plugs after ever ride so there are no worries. He has a couple sets that he rotates thru and it helps alot. Your burning alot of oil in the actual cylinder so they do not last long.

Mine are both like that. Sometimes they start, sometimes it takes a few cranks, sometimes it takes the choke. It just part of the joys of 2 stroke.

So, went out for the first time a week ago. Had a bit of a cylinder misfire. No problem. Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, no big deal. It’s just a 351. Easy stuff, or so I thought. No, manifolds preclude getting any sort of normal 5/8ths plug socket in there. The removal attempt cracked 2 insulators. Also didn’t expect the corrosion around the plug holes to be quite this bad. Then again, it was a salt boat for at least 10 years before I owned it.
This has taken up about 4 afternoons this week…
Insulators broke out flush with the head. That sucks. Let’s try cranking the motor over. Yes, they popped right the F out. Yay for that.
Stupid heavy manifold and riser
Yeah, not going to come out with a normal socket

Starboard manifold nuts. FFS
Back to the marina last night. First stop at the Boathouse, 2 shots, 1 beer. Ready to hit it now.
One broken plug out
2 out
4 new plugs in.
Onto the manifold
Thank god.
Starboard manifold won’t come out with riser bolted to it. Back up tonight to continue disassembly.
Next boat will be from a freshwater body of water only, and it will look a lot like this.

Sounds like you just got to clean and setup your carbs right. Granted I’ve never owned a jet ski, but plenty of snowmobiles and dirt bikes, a 2 stroke is a 2 stroke. Clean carbs once at the beginning of the season, jet/needle them right, make sure your oil injection pump isn’t set crazy high and I’ve never had starting issues or plug fouling issues in thousands of miles of riding.

Watercraft does run quite a bit more rich then your normal dirtbike, ect. The constant high RPMS and high temps in the engine bays are hard on these engines. You are right. Im not saying you have to clean the plugs every single time but it does make everything more consistent.

If the hardware looks that bad I probably would take the risers off and take a close look at them, they are probably on their way out, esp if it was once a saltwater boat. When they do fail, that’s probably one of the most common ways that engines get smoked.

Well, went out tonight, had a little setback…the problem from last year re-occurred…was only out for about 5 minutes, and it started again to cut in and out with power…
Just can’t seem to get this one figured out…when it runs well, like it did the other day, it is just perfect…this issue where the power cuts in and out, it makes me wonder if in fact it is not a fuel issue, but maybe a spark/ignition issue…
Any thoughts/directions to go in? I’m at a loss. Had it out the 23rd, was absolutely perfect…today, back to the same issue from last year…

Pulled the riser off of the manifold Friday to take a look inside. New manifolds and risers being delivered to me Wednesday :-/

Well he buys a new set of plugs maby once a year just to keep a fresh set around in rotation. That is just crazy you are having such intermittent issues. sucks to hear bud

Spent almost all day out on the water Sunday. Launched from Niawanda, cruised up the Canadian side of Lake Erie and did some snorkeling, shot across to Hamburg beach but that was a zoo so didn’t bother to stop. By then the wind was coming up pretty good so we tossed out the tube and let the kids ride double on the tube as we blasted back to the river. Pulled the kids off the tube by the roundhouse because no way would I let them stay on the tube under the Peace Bridge and did a snorkel drift along the shallows on the Canadian side from just below the Peace Bridge to near the railroad bridge. Anchored at Strawberry Island, found out the puppy can indeed swim but isn’t big on the water yet, got the snorkeling video below, then piled back in the boat for some tubing and wakeboarding. With 6 adults, 2 kids and a puppy the new boat snaps me out of the water like nothing on the wakeboard. Cut the watersports a little short because even with tons of sunblock and the bimini top a couple people were starting to get a little too much sun so we just completed our lap of Grand Island and called it a day.
Really impressed with the 21’ Larson and that 5.0 GXi. 270hp and the 4 blade 19p Turning Point Hustler prop seem to be a perfect combination of speed and holeshot. It was really rough out and the difference between how a 21’ boat cut through the chop compared to my old 18’ boat is night and day.
