Lake water is nearly 80 in Buffalo!
Also, anyone hear about this ship coming to Buffalo next year to be commissioned? Supposedly it’s going to be quite the event just getting it here:

How so? Drive it up the Atlantic coast, down through the St.Lawrence Seaway, across Lake Ontario then up the Welland Canal. It’s a route ships that size take literally every day.

Yea its too much. Once I put it up for winter I am going to sell that exhaust and work on something a little more refined.

Not sure, I was listening to an interview on the news and they were saying it’s going to be difficult. But the ship is in Wisconsin.
Maybe they’re anticipating problems with the kayakers…

As a new boater, just curious. What are the rules for being out there after dark?
do you need nav lights on the whole time even when anchored? are you allowed to stay overnight?

Anchor light (rear, white) needs to stay on.

That’s a pretty big assumption since it’s not required in NY for anything other than a jet ski.

Depends on how old you are.

Not nearly as big a joke that you have zero 4th Amendment rights just because you’re on a boat.

I know for a sailboat you don’t need any license at all, but as soon as it goes “vroom” things get more strict.

No license, I’m almost a decade older than required for the age exemption and I don’t have a pwc.
I have read the nys boating manual but I don’t believe it covers this, although I could be wrong.
So you’re allowed to stay in the outer harbor inside the breakwall overnight? with just the rear light on?
Just don’t want to get boarded at 3am

Honestly it’s worth taking the course especially now that you can do it online and don’t have to sit in a class like I did. You learn a lot of information like the question you’re asking here.
You can stay anywhere really, just anchor and leave your white light on. You can turn off the nav lights (red & green.) Just don’t anchor in the middle of the shipping lane, lol. You’ll probably want to find somewhere protected though in case of winds or waves.
I’ve stayed overnight a few times but never in the outer harbor. We usually head up to Crystal Beach and around that area.

Went out last night again, rode out from Gallagher, went out to Canalside, LaSalle, FLW Boathouse, etc. Then turned around, and went to the lake and started towards Hamburg…came back and ripped around inside the break wall for a bit before packing it in…the sign is still up, but there were a lot of people still there…
Anyways, machine ran great again…
Here’s where I lose my mind…last summer, I bought a spare motor for my machine (also an '89) for $100. Too cheap to pass up, I figured why not. I am going to do my first engine build on it by freshening it up, and maybe seeing where I can squeeze some more power out of it…stay tuned…
