Depends on how much you want to spend. For a desktop, the only options worth getting are the 24" 3.06ghz iMac with the 8800GS or a base model Mac Pro with the 8800GTā¦
Both cost about the same, the Mac Pro needs a monitor.

Oh, and if you think you can get off cheap and get the Mac Miniā¦ Dont bother, its a little on the expensive side for even a mac, and has no keyboard, monitor, mouseā¦ And if she really wants a mac, and she does, she will want to complete the experience with a apple monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Thats another $800 minimum, so just get a iMac and a jobs bobblehead, and be done with itā¦ Until a new model comes out.

Ohā¦ Laptop?
Well you dont really have a choice in that price range. Get a base model Macbook Pro. No real need for 4gb of expensive ass mac memory, and the 15" is a good size for daily use, stock HD works fine, the 7200rpm one is worth it if you want to drop like $200 on it. If you have a āstudentā with a student idā¦ You get $200 off, so its $1800, and then you give the iPod Touch to the āstudentā with the student id. You can get the $100 printer.
Oh waitā¦ Im a āstudentā, i even have a student id!

The Macbook runs crappy Intel integrated graphics and is a bit bogged by even flash games, so it shouldnāt be a option compared to the price of a base MBP.
And the MBP has a backlight keyboard, and thats nice.
