# Oil pressure

Got my oil pressure gauge hooked up today, I T’d it off my oil feed line to the turbo. It is bouncing around, if im at idle its a 20 psi if im just driving around town its around 40, and if im on the highway doing 60 its around 60. Why does it drop so low at idle? This isnt normal is it?
oh and the line is coming off a golden eagel sandwhich plate.

somebody gotta know someting abot this? Should the oil pressure jump like that?

read up on variable displacement pumps. should answer your question
the fluctuation of pressure is perfectly normal.

That’s gonna depend on your car/motor etc… My oil pressure fluctuates, if I’m on the gas it may go up to around 60 and it’s higher when I first start the car, but once the car warms up it may drop to 20-30. It will raise and lower, but if it’s bouncing or jumping then it could be the sender.

20 seems a bit low off idle…but pretty close. oil psi raises w/ rpms.

If available, one of the best places to T an oil pressure is at the filter housing, depending on the vehicle it may have a place stock. The pressure should fluctuate, since the oil pump is pumping more oil at higher RPMs appose to idle.
