# painting (clear tint paint) over chrome?

i want to paint a chrome grill with tint paint.
it worked really well on my corners, and i want my chrome grill to not be so blingy. the question is…
do i scuff it first, or just clean it?
will the paint fill in the scuffs, or will the scuffs show thru?

I think the scuffs would show…do a test spot to see how it turns out without scuffing if the paint will stick

the scuffs will show thru
hell, scuff’s can show thru opaque paint if the paint isnt thick enough

use 3M adhesion promoter prior to application. DO NOT SCUFF THE CHROME

use VHT night shades on it… it will mkae it a shadow chrome and the stuff is meant to stick to plastic so it will stick to the metal… make sure u do it indoors and the metal is at room temp and it is UBER clean

i washed the hell out of it, but i think there was still some wax on it. i didnt want to use chemicals on it just incase. anywho, it was fisheyed like whoa. so i spent an hour stripping it.
plan B anyone?

my paint stuck fine, it was the wax that killed it. it wouldnt have turned out the way i wanted. i want a black chrome look.

soak it in some spray nine or degreaser to remove the wax. then rinse with lots of de-natured alcohol. should do the trick.
