I’m considering a car, it has damage but everything but the quarter panel and trunk lid have been repaired. here is a pic of the remaining damage; ![http://www.theoriginalelitemotorcars.com/images/carPics/37581997%20BMW%20M3%20051.jpg](http://www.theoriginalelitemotorcars.com/images/carPics/37581997%20BMW%20M3%20051.jpg) I figure I could get that portion of the panel from a junker (is there anyone on here who could weld it on for me)? and just replace the trunk lid. Anyone here have any info on if it would pass salvage inspection as is (before the quarter is repaired)? appreciate any info ---

For the repair, you would better off finding someone with a stud welder to pull it out far enough so you can use a small coat of filler. ---

I honestly do not see why it would fail inspection. My driver’s side rear quarter is severely damaged and passed inspection. It had to be pulled off the tire with a slide hammer to give you some clue. My suspension is screwed up back there and they still passed it (A BMW dealership). Still drives mechanically, but the tire rides tilted inwards. I might be interested in a weld job too if you find someone willing to do it for cheap, group buy maybe… ---

salvage inspection is a lot different than a regular inspection ---

a salvage inspection is mainly to check for stolen parts. if you dont change anything you should be good. but that is an easy fix. push the quarter out from the inside. a stud gun would make holes in that, its pretty work hardened ---

its really not that bad just time consuming and expensive, i bought a wrecked a6 of the site a few years back, all receipts are needed you have to have car towed there and towed home. or driven if a dealer plate is available. the pull it in, check over the whole car for stolen parts and to make sure that everything is safe like air bags and everything and then pass it. then you wait for the great state of new york to process it and get your title. might be 2 weeks mights be 3 months like it was in my case. i know someone that bought a wrecked bike and they took it there with all the wrecked plastics and it was still passed. so that dent shouldn’t be an issue. ---

if thats the only damage your fine, if you replaced anyother panel with a different vin # (fenders hood etc.) make sure to have the receipt
