It’s not just buying cars, repairs/maint. costs get people in the ass a lot too. I know of a person I work with that paid **_$1600_** to have a return fuel line put on her '93 Camry wagon at the dealership. I was absolutely

Let’s see car purchases in order over the past 12 years:
1985 Fiero GT, Geneva, NY -Private sale
1992 Geo Tracker, Kingston, Ontario -Private sale
1998 Ford Ranger, Basil Ford, Cheektowaga, NY (got a great deal, still would never go back to Basil). -Dealer
1986 Fiero GT, Cleveland, OH -Private sale
2000 Ford Expedition, Detroit, MI -Dealer
2005 Pontiac GTO, Wilmington, NC -Dealer
So out of the 6 cars in the last 12 years, one was a local. Local dealers could have made some decent money off me if they weren’t all such assholes. Hell, what I saved on the Expedition alone was more than the travel involved in picking up all the vehicles combined. We’re talking about 5-8 grand difference for driving 3.5 hours.

I’m sure all of us really know the going rate for everything we purchase. :roll:
Cars, houses, big ticket (more than you make in 2 weeks) items are worth looking into. However, some people get a little out of hand, looking for days to save $30 on an airline flight? Driving an extra ten minutes to find $.05 ceaper in gas?..
You get the idea.

it’s worth what somebody will pay. The problem is that some dealers will never give anybody a fair price because they are waiting for morons like that to come along.
maybe he thought 4g was a deal. Not everybody gets to own a 3 cyl car you know.

you know, there really aren’t any personal financial management classes in our country’s schools. you’d almost think that it was the goal of the government to leave the average american in the dark as to how badly they can invest their hard-earned money, making the rich richer, the poor… you know.
unless if you read up on investing and the such, but who wants to do that?

A friend of mine took his Camry to Northtown to get the thermostat changed out. They wanted to charge him $380 for the job. He was ok with it until I told him that the thermostat itself was about $10-$20 and the work required 2 bolt taken out right on the front of the engine.

that is very true you would think something like that would be toutched on in highschool.
and i definately agree with you guys on the repair side o things. some of the things people fix are insane!. at my work we have came right out and tell people that we don’t reccomend fixing the car that they should go out and buy a different car. “no go ahead and do it” :bloated:

People just don’t seem to care about throwing away large sums of money on a car. These are probably the same people sifting through their coupons in the checkout line. There should be people you can hire to take to the dealership with you, and they can guide the buyer into not getting fucked. It would be well worth the money. I’ve seen lots of people get majorly ripped off before, to the point of my jaw dropping when I find out what they still owe on some shitty used car.
