Funny, this just happened to me a couple weeks ago. I was with a good friend at his good friend’s bar and I got ripped off for $4. Again it is not the $4 it is the fact that they took it without asking. I usually tip heavily where ever I ago because I know that is how they make their money and it pisses me off that I tipped so much that I had to buy the next round with plastic and then the bastards pretty much stole from me. The owner probably doesn’t even know and I don’t want to make a stink aboot it.

I love a comment like " waiters and waitresses make enough so be happy with my $2 dollar tip on a $50 dollar check"
If the person provided good service and you do not tip properly you should not be going out to eat

I tip ~15%, and also choose take out often because I hate paying an additional 15% tax to people that only do 5 minutes work and most likely do not even pay taxes on it.

Some restaurants pre-authorize your card for a 20 percent tip automatically. When they make the final charge they change it to what you actually tipped.
I always use debit cards in restaurants, and have not had a problem. A waiter who did this even once in a while would be fired quickly, and they know it.

My wife was a full-time waitress for 3 years during school and never made more than 19k a year and the place she worked made you claim everything. So that is a crock that they make plenty of bank.
You do realize they make no wages?
I used to deliver pizza and between gas and extra miles on the car and all the extra maintance I was lucky if I made $10 an hour. That ain’t shit!

:word: Tipping should be a min 15% no matter what, they are providing a service, if you can’t tip or can’t afford to then you probably shouldn’t be eating out. :bloated:

The “tips” you guys are feel are entitled should be listed as a convenience fee, not a tip.
IMO, A tip says, hey thanks for caring enough to not spit in my food and
not putting steak knives or extremely hot plates in front of my toddler.
Tips should not be mandatory, and they should not be modified w/o permission. (just to keep on topic)

Tipping has a very important function in our social structure and service culture. I don’t want to imagine the quality of service I’d receive if waiters/waitresses were salaried at a level where they didn’t have to worry about pleasing the customer.

I usually always tip in cash. If the waiter/waitress is prompt at refilling drinks, has an upbeat attitude and is actually doing there job I do feel as though they should be rewarded, so I tip generously. If they bring my food then disappear til it’s time for the check I’ll be a bit more stingy.
I believe you should be paid based on performance. If you half ass a job you get a half ass pay check. If you put in the effort you should be paid and rewarded aptly. This is regardless if your serving at Denny’s or working a shirt and tie job.

i actually did this before. i was closing out the order and when i put the tip in i put a 5 dollar tip in instead of a 3 dollar. so i called my boss informed him and then called the customer and informed him about that mistake i had made and that it would be fixed tomorrow afternoon.

I always try to tip in cash. CC tips must be claimed as income. Cash is less “automatic”. I consider it a courtesy to tip my server in cash.

sounds to me like someone turned your 5 into a 8 on your receipt and tiped themselves a few extra. Yea, its only a few bucs but the fact it was stolen is what would make me wanna persue it.
