so you think it would be better for them to continually operate at a loss? Seems like thats the way of the government as a whole…

The government is not in the business of delivering letters in order to raise revenue. That is what taxes are for. The price of a stamp is more to defray a bit of the costs. Long standing legislation prohibits a market in residential mail delivery.

as I believe fry said, the ideal situation would be them breaking even (although hitting this target is virtually impossible) , anything else is a negative to some degree
