Lately i’ve had an issue with my driver’s side window being dead to the world, randomly.

It’ll work perfectly for a whole drive, over & over during the whole drive, but then it seems when I turn off the car and restart later and they will remain dead for “that drive”. Then, they may or may not return the next etc.

In addition, the passenger side window will go down from either side’s control, but will only go up from the driver’s side.

It’s seems clear that the fuse isn’t gone or they’d never work, and that the window mechanism is okay because when they do work, they operate perfectly.

I’ve opened up and cleaned both sides’ switches and have had some limited, shorter-term luck in the past, not so much lately.

So what are we looking at as remaining possibilities and what should be checked first?

– Regulator(s)?
– Switch replacement?
– Wiggling harness to switch??

Thanks. 🙂

hey DFJ
try taking the control thingys that go in the door skins and cleaning both parts of the harness,
clean it raelly good.

I had the same issue with my first s13,
thats how I fixxed it,
hopefully its as easy as it was for my as for you.

no pinches in the wires?

get a friend with an s13 to trade switch things for a minute just to see if thats the issue,
if you need that, let me know.

but that honestly sounds like there is a pinch in the wire, I have an extension cord that only works in a certain position.

pinch in the wire going to the little box probably?
i had the same problem and swapped the black box, didnt fix it.
i cut the harness back about 18" and wired on another good section from the junkyard…

hope it helps.
good luck

So after a lot more diagnosis, it looks like it may be the regulator - the black box that is screwed on inside the door with the harness attached.

When the driver side window doesn’t work, this will often if not always “click”.

Will have pics soon for anyone else with a similar issue. I’m gonna test another regulator that is known to work to see if this fixes the problem…unless anyone has other suggestions!

In case anyone reads this later, the problem (driver window dead or intermittent) was with the driver’s side power window regulator - the black box behind the door panel:

Plugged a replacement in and it worked like a charm.

I had the exact same issue with my old red S13. The regulator is the problem. I ended up opening mine (had to break it) and found that one of the solder points was cracked and loose on the board hence why it would work sometimes. I resoldered it and the problem was fixed.

Yep I had the same issue on my 92 S13. I just went to a scrapper and got the box. Simple!
