# problems with a CAI?

has anyone ever had a problem with there CAI and the amount of rain we get here in PA?

nope never… but doesnt aem or someone make a bypass valve thingy that if your filter gets clogged it will pull air from the engine bay?

I had a CAI on a 97 prelude and never had any problems. I stayed away from big puddles though.

I have a fenderwell about 3-4 inches form the ground and never ran into a problem,are u haveing some?

I’ve been running mine for a while now and I have not had any problems. As long as you don’t submerge the filter, you’ll be fine.

no i’m not, i’m planning on going from a short ram to a CAI and i’m getting a lot of people talking about hydrolocking and i know it rains pretty hard from time to time out here

i wouldn,t be worried man,mine is very very close to the ground and i have been through alooooooooot of deep puddles with no problems:beer: How close would urs be?

i knew of one case where a kid sucked up a puddle.
thats the only one i’ve ever heard of though, and will most likely never cause you a problem… but in that case it cost the kid a motor. so i dont know if its worth it, especially considering how open honda engine bays are. you are probably only getting a few degrees difference in temperature.

I knew a guy about 10 years ago that had one on his Fox body Mustang GT and he sucked up enough water to hydrolock his engine during a bad rain storm. It was the snorkel type of intake that hung below the front air dam and the car was fairly low. If you have the filter a reasonable distance off the ground you should be okay as long as you remember to take it easy during heavy rains.

the bypass valse is cheap, mine came with one, but if your that worried, just buy it to be safe.

never had a problem with my CAI or the one on my wifes car.
as far as bypass valves…
gearhead always says that if thats on there its going to suck air from the bypass & defeat the purpose of a CAI…make sense to me.
