So, I’m doing my first home-built PC from scratch. Done a lot of upgrading stuff in the past, but never messed with the CPU. Any pointers in installing a Intel 775 cpu?? ---

sperad a thin layer of thermal grease on cpu, line up pins and pull lever down. they might be key locked so u cant really put it in wrong. ---

Remember you dont need to go nuts on the paste, typically the amount the size of a BB is more than enough. ---

Does the Processor typically come with some of the thermal paste or do I need to steal some from here at work? ---

[/quote] If you bought an retail CPU it comes with it on the heatsink but that shit is garbage. Arctic Silver (whatever version they have now) is great as well as some other shit that escapes me. [www.overclockers.com](http://www.overclockers.com) has great info on good thermal interface material. If you bought an OEM CPU, you gotta get the grease… ---

By thin layer of thermal grease they mean THIN… So thin that it should be translucent. A little drop should cover the die when spread properly. It may take a few tries to get it right ---

I got a retail CPU… The PC isn’t for me; it’s for my father, so “performance” isn’t a huge thing, it won’t see over-clocking, nor barely a strain on it so I’m not too worried about CPU cooling. All he uses it for is the Internet, Ebay, E-mail, some very basic photo editing, and MS Office… ---
