looks and sounds like youre cooking along pretty good. Gonna be a killer ride when done. Also a side note when I tore my old 82 Z/28 down for a rebuild I found a small sack of coins from 82 burried in the dash. I took a few out and added some 10’s and put sack back in the dash. I guess even the guys at the assembly line have a sense of humor too ---

Got more wire; but need to grab a bag of tips (welder came with .025 & .035; but .030 is the typical wire, which I got; but don’t have a tip for; fuck). And some more 2" 24-Grit discs, and some sandpaper Rolls for getting into some spots that aren’t so easy to get into. ---

When you get tips, buy some anti-spatter spray. It will help. ---

Are you going to continue welding the seams into the interior? If so and it’s anything like a 3rd gen they globbed sealer everywhere ---

Interior is getting a Wolfe 6/8 pt bar or a custom built bar. I’ve had the interior apart too many times to count, and there’s not a lot of seam sealer, or there wasn’t at least. But at this point there’s quite a layer of Spray Sound-Deadening material on the interior, not worth it to remove/scrape/swear/bitch/etc to remove it all to seam weld in there. Getting it off to weld the mounting plates for the bar is going to be fun enough. ---

You could probably use your Multi-tool…just thinking about that now and it I bet it would work really well. ---

I’ve been using it for the really tight spots in the engine bay for paint/primer/sealer removal. But there’s still some areas with the tips/bits that I have that I can’t access. Need to get some tapered sanding rolls (like what’s used for porting/polishing heads) to get good access to some of the spots. They way they made the shock towers kick into the engine bay; the lower weld to the frame is a nightmare to get access to with tools. ---

Quick update… Haven’t gotten much if anything else done on the bird… Life is chaos. But… Did source an engine and k-member today. Complete 98 ls1 (125k) all accessories, PCM, air box, etc. ready to drop in hookup the power/grounds and fire up; plus a new BMR KM019 k-member (ultra high clearance turbo style. Uses pedestal style mounts like their sbc/bbc k-members. Allows tons of room for turbo down pipes.) for just over 2k delivered. I know the 99+ is preferred but for this price, with a new BMR k-member and ready to drop in, I couldn’t pass it up. Plus this motor is to get the car running, and the ls swap debugged, not be the final motor in the car. Going to do a once over on the motor, not a build, but tear apart, inspect, new rings, bearings, and gasket kid. Prob a ls6 manifold and maybe a cam if I have the budget/find a deal. Prob swap to a 99+ PCM as well. ---

If I move back to buffalo, one of two things will happen… it’s either going in the moving truck (Moving company’s Semi-Truck); or I’m grabbing an enclosed car hauler and dragging it across country again, only this time it will be with my truck/trailer and I’m stopping 1/2 way for a night in a hotel. Not doing that trip straight through again; getting too old for that crap. Regardless of where we end up in a year and a half, I’m still going to end up driving across country with an enclosed trailer, there’s things a moving company won’t move that I don’t want to get rid of again (like everything I tossed/gave away when I moved out here). ---

Chemicals get EXPENSIVE especially when you’ve got a cabinet or 2 full of them (Paints, solvents, aerosols, finishes, etc). ---

Do the 99+ PCM conversion if you plan on modding the car or doing anything serious down the line. The 98 is a pain with dual VE tables and limitations on OS upgrades. ---

Exactly what I was reading. And I figured, seeing everything is out of the car to start with, and I was already going to clean-up the harness, I might as well. Plus I can pretty much have a net-zero cost for the 98-99+ PCM. Price on 98 PCMs has gone up through the roof for some reason; hell I might even be able to make a little $$ on switching.
