ya so this sentence pretty much sums up the article

“Games for the next-generation console cost an average of $8.6 million to create, according to Takasu, and need to sell 500,000 units before the developer can turn a profit.”

> **[Namco: 500,000 PS3 games required for profit](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/namco-500000-ps3-games-required-for-profit/1100-6162509/)**
>
> Titles for Sony's next-gen console have to shift half a million copies before developers start to make money, says Takeo Takasu.

Is this going to kill a lot of those smaller games that go cross platform to up their numbers…

smaller titles otherwise known as not so popular titles will have a hard time breaking even @ 500,000 units let alone a profit. Non-mainstream titles will flop horrible if this is the case.

I find that hard to believe.

Although, Killzone 2 has a budget of more than $21 million.

It should also be pointed out that the movie industry routinely makes movies that go far in excess of their budget and never see the kind of money at the box office to make up the difference i.e. Waterworld.

Yet we keep getting movies…even in the days of mass piracy.

Oh and I believe is was 2004 that the gaming industry actually made more money than the film industry.

Smaller titles would never be given an $8.6 million budget either. :uhh:

yea but if they cross platform the others would make up for it no?
