# Question about laws for headlights

I was just wondering if yellow high beams are legal in PA. The low beams would remain white. They are two separate housings/bulbs.

Just wondering but why would you want to reduce the usefulness of you high beams?

Well, the lights I’m looking at are brighter than my current highbeams, and they’re yellow. “Selective” yellow lights (are supposed to) provide better visibility in rain and fog.

Yeah I agree that yellow lights are better in rain and fog but they must be positioned low for maximum effect and to minimize the scatter which makes it hard to see in those conditions (i.e. fog lights). The yellow lenses do diminish the light output pretty significantly so I don’t think they would work well as a high beams. Now if there is a Hella e-code replacement light that fits in the stock high beam spot I’d definitely get them. I just upgraded to e-codes using 80/100 bulbs in my miata the the output is simply amazing.

I have sealed-beam bulbs, my car is 25 years old. The ones I am looking at are Hella.
I didn’t see anything about it here… but it might not be the right document to look at.

My Miata _had_ sealed beam lights until I put the e-codes in. Maybe you aren’t familiar with them?

I have a feeling your car uses h5006 style bulbs. The 5 3/4" hella would be perfect.

I see. It’s just a straight conversion? Interesting.
The bulbs I’m looking at are still sealed-beams, and were French approved in the 1980’s… :hsugh:
I would like to do the conversion in the future, though.

Yup the Hellas are plug and play. I suppose you could get creative and do an H4 combo high/low outer with a H1 fog style/yellow bulb inner. That might be pretty cool actually.

Yeah I will probably do that if I keep this car long enough. There are just other things on the list before I do the whole conversion, I just found these old yellow Hella bulbs cheap.

why would you get pulled over for them and if you do just tell a cop they are your fog lights they probably wont say anything then
