question, How good is the aftermarket on the GM 2.4L twin cam block when it comes to boosted applications?

Has anyone ever bolted a 2.4L twin cam to a rwd setup using a T5 transmission? :snky:

how easy is it to find a 2.4L block?

Ty 👋

quad fours are mad pimp. aftermarket is fairly decent. turbo they can be quite crazy. ne z24 some 4 door cavaliers, some grand ams had the quad four. in 2001 quad four was disconituned for ecotech motors.

scroll to the bottom for the chart of at what power level things broke and were replaced. Everything other then the turbo kit can be bought directly from GM. They also have a book on how to build teh ecotec drag motor.

2.2 and the ecotech 2.2 are huge differences, twin cam is the main big one. ecotech as more top end then the 2.4 but a bit weaker in the bottom end.

great resource for parts. ne tranny can be bolted up wiht an adapter. for that u might need to check out advanced adapters, they can adapt nethning to nething

2.4’s are readily available, but you never hear stories of any that make real HP for
more than a year…

like anything else, you can boost them. Ive never seen or heard of an aftermarket block?

when i blew mine, i got the replacement for $550. It was cheaper to replace it than rebuild. I have heard of having them mounted in rwd apps, but if i remember correctly, only mantapart made the right plate to mount it? I’m sure you could fab one? why exactly would you use a 2.4?
If it is an option, the eco is much more boost friendly than the 2.4…
the 2.2 ohv is junk. a 50 shot should make it as fast as the 2.4’s, but then its maxed out 😃

i was contemplating doing a boosted 2.4 s-10 swap. nobody on s-10fourm, planet, etc.etc has ever done anything like it, they either stick with the 2.2, swap in a v6, or go full bore v8.

Edit: im lookin at a few 94-95 bodies (ODB1 for teh win) and contemplating ripping out the 2.2 junk motor and putting in a boosted GM 4 cyl. I was asking about the 2.4’s becuase so many people have boosted them before. And its gonna be built, forged rods, pistons, moly rings etc. im not just gonna throw boost on a stock block and run it till it blows.

t5 plus power is asking for issues plus iam not sure about using amounting plate. ur better off using a v8 in anything rwd(bang for the buck anyways)

FYI: 2.4L Twin Cam (LD9) is a different engine than the Quad Four (which is 2.3L, although, some parts are interchangeable)

Let me ask the guy who boosted his LD9 on his Alero. 🙂

im planning on finding and boosting a 2.4L twin cam LD9.

Mantaparts makes an adapter

edit: now im reconsidering it, maybe its time to stop fighting the v8 bug shit for the 2.4 is wayyy expensive

hmm, second gen v8 swap anyone?

Solstice uses the 2.4L in a RWD application, but I don’t know what tranny it is using. It is a 5 speed, so it could very well be the T-5.

do NOT buy from mantapart…

their reputation, is that of low quality, bad delivery and worse service.

i boosted my stock 2.4…
even built 2.4’s would not be as reliable as the eco…
the solstice uses a 2.4l eco engine…

the only way i would suggest the LD9 is if you already have one.
if you built one, and wanted around 200 hp… you could probably drive it that way forever. I would not expect any longevity if you go for 300+
