When I bought my car I had my father co-sign so his name and my name are currently on the title. Does anyone know what we need to do so that I can drop him from the title? The car is completely paid off and I am hopefully moving out of state soon. Thanks ---

Get the lien release…apply for a new title with just your name ---

The lien has already been released, i am mostly wondering if we will A) need to go to the DMV together to get his name dropped. B) He can go in himself. or C) I can go in myself. ---

Call the dmv. You most likely have to both sign the title as the seller, you sign the title as the buyer, and bring a clear copy of his license with you to the dmv. Then they can issue a new title in your name. ---

why can’t you just have him sign the title today and write a notarized letter to you saying he releases all interest in the car to you. That should cover any scenario that comes up.
