Got the new 408ci bullet in Friday…

In with the Torque Monster…
It was a lil’ warm on Saturday but we got 'er done.
Not running yet though.
Faggots told me “yeah, you can use a mechanical fuel pump”. Guess what? No provisions for a mechanical fuel pump. Now I get to build a whole new fuel system. Oh Joy!
Also having starter issues. Seems that the offset bolt hole for a standard starter is not located in exactly the right place, causing the starter to install at a slight offset in relation to the flexplate. I guess I am going to have to invest in a high performance starter since they do not use the offset bolt hole.
Can’t wait to feel all that torque!

I HOPE to have it running for the August 25th FLD in Zelie. All depends on how long it takes to complete a new fuel system with an electric pump.
Any thoughts on a good electric pump? I have a new Holley blue pump sitting in the garage from a former project. I will probably just use it, but I have heard some stories about those things suddenly failing without warning.
T&L is sending me a new mini-starter since this block does not want to play nice with a conventional starter.
Some nice weather would surely help also.
I believe I am going to need some exhaust work as well. The Y-Pipe that is on it is hitting the oil pan and it is really a piece of crap to begin with. I am going to need new pipes from the headers to the Flowmaster cat-back connection. Anybody wanna help me out here? 1st Try or Domination maybe?? PM Me Please…
Obviously I have to get it running first…

yeah well all the later TPI cars had electric fuel pumps and they work pretty good. get a Walbro unit and it should feed enough for that 408.
where did you get that motor from? any specs on that cam and heads they use?

Well, I’m gonna start out with my Holley Blue pump just 'cause I already have it.
T&L Engine Development in NC. Heads are Dart Pro 1 Platinum 200cc and cam is comp cams hydraulic roller with 230/245 duration and 510/540 lift. Crank & rods are Carillo 4340 items and pistons are mahle forged units. Compression is up around 10.7:1! :burnout:

thats a stout bottom end and that cam is pretty good with nitrous too. cant wait to see it run
what was the old motor and what are you doing with it?

Old POS motor was a Year One crate engine built by Hi-Tech out of Utah. Should have been a decent motor: your basic late model gen 1 small block with vortec heads and GM Hot cam setup. But evidently Hi-Tech doesn’t believe in balancing their motors. This was the second one I received from them and neither one was properly balanced. (just in case you’re keeping score, yes, that is now three engine swaps). It’s on it’s way back to them and Year One has promised a full refund.

Well, not so much that, however they were designed at the time with performance in time. A sleeper would be something like a 4 door sedan that rips, etc. A car that never had performance in mind.
