Once summer hits, I’m going t really push the car for sale to have one less bill, taking the 67 and the bike to NC and starting over. The gas to drive the 67 down should be wonderful lol

Man, this is an old thread! After 7 years in SoCal my wife and I took an opportunity through my new(ish) employer to relocate closer to family in the NE the ‘right way’ by making work pay for it and keeping our SoCal paychecks and then some.
After moving from Orange County CA in early Feb, we settled just north of Pittsburg. I know, PA… gross… but we are absolutely LOVING it for now. It’s nice being quarantined in a nice new place.

Honestly, great. We packed up/shipped our gear and drove our cars caravan style in 5 days. It was a fun week driving CC again.
Settled about 30 min north of Pitt in Cranberry Township. My wife has offices here which was a big reason we looked at this area, and i’m in territory for my role so it’s cut down my travel.
Shortly after the move the world got put on hold, so we have a nice new space, some fun new twisty roads to explore, and tonssss more garage and workshop space to putz around in.
At some point i’ll grow restless, but once we can travel again I am on the road all the time for work so this is a really solid ‘home base’ and a drive away from family. So far not terrible!

Pittsburgh area sounds like a nice location to me. Just south of the major snow belt and enough for earlier and warmer springs. Best of luck @maxwell
I’d still love to move out west. I’m sure after my next adventure I’ll really want to. Taking a trip for a few weeks through some national parks in CO, WY, MT, ND, SD and back to CO. Really hoping this BS going on doesn’t ruin it for mid September. We have a LOT planned as we are getting married in Rocky Mountain National Park. It’s starting to get nervous.

spent some time in the cranberry TWP area last year dealing with a hail storm. genuinley impressive area for the roads and all of the nice new infrastrcuture.

Funny to see my reply of San Diego and that I (basically) ended up there by accident for 6 months (Oceanside) then slowly moved into LA over 2 years. Back in Rochester since 2017 because I wanted to buy a house with some land, something that couldn’t happen given my career path (wasn’t going to be making 250k+ anytime soon). Probably looking to move south in the next 5-10 years. Somewhere between Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Nashville. I need more land, more freedom, and less tax.

I “moved” down there for about 2 weeks in 2006/7. I wasn’t that impressed with the Charlotte area. But maybe I wasn’t there long enough.
If I’m going south it would be TN for zero state income tax.

Several years ago my wife and I had a serious talk about possibly moving. Unlike most here winter is a huge plus for me being a skier. We honestly love all 4 seasons here in NY so that eliminated a lot of moving south options. Before you say, “just fly somewhere to ski”, my daughter and I ski once or twice a week so that’s out of the question. HV is an hour drive, Bristol a little over 2, Gore a little less than 4.5 and Killington a little under 6. That’s some pretty great skiing all within an easy drive.
The other big one for us is boating. We love going out on weeknights so that means having access to boat friendly waterways within a 20 minute drive. CO has the right climate and amazing skiing, but boating is really limited if you want to live near any of the decent sized cities. I found that the case most places we looked that were near at least Buffalo sized metro areas with real 4 season weather.
In the end, while we hate NY taxes, we love a lot about where we’re at. Tons of restaurants, easy commutes, affordable housing, plenty of job opportunities and easy access to the hobbies we love. I’ve traveled quite a bit and I’ve never found a friendlier area than WNY either.

Even though taxes suck in Buffalo, money goes 3x as far here than most places.
