Just gotta keep your eyes open there are lots of options that are being tailored to that use, but they all carry extra price because of the “marketing”.
The savage hog hunter is one to keep en eye on via grabagun
also the Remington AAC 308 with 16" barrel would be boss for this use BUT it needs two major improvements out of the box
1. A better stock- bell and carlson or Hs
2. Bottom metal with a detachable mag
the savage does have a “better” stock out of the box but it too lacks a detachable mag.
With you being in a free state it might be cheaper for you to buy more of a base model and have the barrel cut and threaded for your needs. If that’s the route you choose look at a base rem spsv or a base savage11vt
Ps: you have to many choices of awesome living in a free state.

What should I expect to pay?
Realistically I’d love a bull barrel 700 in an XLR or accuracy international chassis, but it’s not in the budget. More importantly most of our ranges only go out 2 to 3 hundred yards… Unfortunately.

Well if it’s for pig hunting or 500 yards max I would avoid the super pricey chassis. They look cool but unless you can take full advantage of them the weight and price are major drawbacks.
If if I was building something to fit hogs under 500 I would do 308, 16-18" barrel threaded with a heavy-ish contour a composite stock with bedding block b(&c or hs) with detachable mags and new bottom metal. I happen to favor savage actions so I would prob try to find a big Box store exclusive model to build from. For example dicks sells the 11vt it was on sale two weeks ago for $375 after rebate.
$375 barreled action
$3-400 stock
$200.00 bottom metal for ai mags (Cdi makes a great version and is in your neck of the woods)
$60-80 per mag for AI or other brands
$100-200 for barrel cut crown and thread (I think Cdi does this as well might be a good resource)
$60.00 EGW scope base
$90.00 for seekins rings (vortex rebrands seekins rings for less)
Then you have the real money your optic, and as you know that can go from $600-$6000+

My bad. Was looking at the Axis XP and the decided to move up to the 111 Trophy Hunter. It was about $100 more and the scope alone is 100x better. I honestly was impressed with the guys at Dicks. I went to Cabela’s to ask questions and the guys there were useless. Wouldn’t even give me a straight answer. The guys at Dicks were 100x better which I was shocked by.

Excellent choice on the upgrade! It’s something that can grow with your interest and provide excellent service for many years.

Ya that was the goal. The Axis seems like it would have delivered what I wanted but the only one I would have wanted was Axis II which was harder to find and only $50 less than the Trophy one, it was hard not upgrade.
The .30-06 at the register was $495 and there is the $75 mail in rebate on it. Pretty happy with the deal for a solid rifle for about $450.
I just gotta get to the range today to shoot it. Went together really simple but want to load it and fire it.

Blue loctite your optics mounts and make sure everything is tight, they always seem to come out of the box loose.

How long is the range at NGR? Could I sight this thing in at like 200 or is it really short there? Probably going to run up today. First rifle I put together and was only the bolt and want to make sure its not gonna blow up.

Every indoor range in buffalo is 50YDS, alabama swamps can go out to 125 i think depending on the range.

Ah. I thought NGR had a longer one for some reason. I will be out in the woods Friday hunting so will take a shot in the afternoon to fire this if nothing is around.
