# S10 transmission

I’ll know today whether I’m buying an 88 S-10 or not. It’s lowered, and needs a new tranny. 4cyl, 5spd, 2wd. I’m sure there are a few different transmissions that go there… anyone know what I should look for? I’m not looking for any kind of race gearing or anything.

I think your options are narrowed down with the 4 banger 5 speed combo you got. You will have the iron duke motor I believe.

yeah…i’m pretty sure it’s the 2.5
i wouldn’t mind putting a better motor in there down the road, but this truck will be strictly for hauling building materials and other Home Depot shit to my house until it is finished.

Yeah man if you’ve got the iron duke those trannys are REALLY hard to come by. I’m aware of an 87 with the 2.5 that got junked b/c the guy couldnt find another manual tranny to put in it.
I don’t beleive that a 2.8 tranny will match up to that bellhousing either, so it could be a tough find, even for someone like Brian.
