I’m looking into getting a sandblasting cabinet on ebay soon. Someone said I shouldn’t use regular sand from a hardware store b/c it causes some type of lung cancer. I’m basically buying it to sandblast some car parts of mine that have rusted (since my car is 10 years old now) and on my valve cover. What type of media should I use? Thanks …

harbor freight sells the same cabinets for 299, and i gotta say … they arent the greatest things out there … lets build one dude
a swap meet sand blaster, some plywood, some heavy duty chemical gloves, a few light bulbs, a sheet of lexan and some 2x4’s for legs and your sandblasting for under $100 total, especialy if you already have a shop vac

hahaha… maybe thats part of the problem 😃
by the way sand is ok as long as its decent inducstrial grade. Do not buy the shit from home depot. Play sand is not recommended. It contains sea shells and stuff which absorbs and holds moisture. You want the sand to stay as dry as possible.
There is a Building Supply on Walden Ave… Going east … just barely past Transit Rd. They have 80lb bags for $7.50. They also have 3 different grain sizes to choose from. There is also stuff called “Black Beauty” that Keystone sells. I think its more then $20 bag but it lasts much longer. Its industrial slag and not sand. Regular sand gets pulvarized as you blast and becomes finer and finer. You can cycle the entire bag through a blaster at least 10 times before you might want to replace it.
I have a portable blaster and also want to get a cabinet.
