something with a combustion chamber around 64-72cc vortecs would work

Steve Vortecs are a great choice however you do not buy vortecs used.  
because 1) you wont find an uncracked set  
2)they are only $250 each brand new (You’d spend 3/4 of that freshening them)  
Modifed new vortechs are a good way to go stock supposedly is only good to 450-470 lift  
check [http://www.sdpc2000.com/](http://www.sdpc2000.com/) they are really cheap on GM stuff

actually they are up to about 300 per head now. You will also need a different intake (diff bolt patern) and self aligning rockers so- 600(heads)+200(Intake)+60(rockers)=860 for a hundred or 2 more there are better choices

or find a set of dart SS heads. For 999 you can go with a brodix IK200 which are aluminum, flow better, and support future mods

another thought is call some machine shops and see what they have. Often people will start to have heads done then give up or not pay and not pick them up. I got a nice set of 882’s all ported and done up from a machine shop once for like 275.
