is this the same brother-in-law that tried driving with the jump box under the hood?

NEVER let that guy touch any car’s engine again.  
NEVER let that guy anywhere near a jump box. WTF.

As for your situation. It could be so many things. I’d start at the fuses. Also pull off the positive cable and test resistance to the chassis. If it’s low, you know that you have a short.
