Score! I approached my boss at the end of the day about this, and very deftly suggested/explained that what’s needed to be done in Angola doesn’t require my level of expertise, and he’d be better off sending our service manager instead. (Since there’s really no troubleshooting to do, only put the pieces back together that I identified while I was there in the fall.) He agreed, and then told me he is probably going to send me to [an installation in Uruguay](http://www.nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11218&highlight=l33t+h%40x0r), where they’re having some screwy problems that need some expert diagnosing. I’ve never been to South America, so even if Uruguay ends up a shit hole, at least it’ll be a new shit hole. :tup: ---

Uruguay has made some HUGE leaps in terms of freedom in the past few years. No military control–it’s FREE in comparison to other countries in South American. If you can. And I HIGHLY recommend it. Go to Buenos Aires for a day. Argentina is such a neat mixture of cultures. Italian, Spanish, and German. It’s so neat. I want to go there. That’s the first place I’m going to when I have money. Because it’s so neat. Trying to understand Spanish in an Italian dialect is also fun to do. ---

Until I saw your post (25) I was going to say you should negotiate at least $2,000.00. I just saw a movie with Nicholus Cage that made it look pretty scary over there. Aren’t diamonds from Africa “covered in blood”? It doesn’t seem like a good business to deal with. ---

IMO, avoid Africa and countries that lack English and the major European languages (Spanish, Italian, French, German, and to a lesser extent, Portuguese). So, South America would be okay. ---

You’re talking about Lord of War. Angola isn’t as rough as what that movie depicts. “Blood diamonds” are diamonds that are sold to fund war efforts. The mine I was at was one such mine. Angola was in Civil war from 1975 (when Portugal pulled out, as Angola was a colony until then) until the national and rebel forces called a truce in 2002. The [Catoca diamond mine](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catoca_diamond_mine) was under rebel control during those years. That mine now has 2 pits, each something like 2 miles wide and a half mile deep. It was very impressive to see. You don’t have to go far from Angola to see true, raw Africa that was depicted in Lord of War. A quick glance shows something like 11 African countries on [US Consular Travel Warnings](http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_1764.html) I don’t get how an entire continent got left behind.
