ok, so i finally got my hands on a t76 turbonetics turbo to start designing my new manifold and im scratching my head trying to figure out exactly how im going to fit all of this and its got me thinking whether or not a twin scroll t4 is realy even worth it on a 6cyl. The ports on the divided housing flanges are pretty small and it looks awefully restricive compared to single scroll flange. Now im thinking if i were building a t6 divided then there would be enough flow through the flange for a 6cyl but i realy dont wanna hurt my power by trying to make power by utilizing a twin scroll design.

anybody with experience/knowledge i would appreciate any kinda feedback. Its going to be quite a task to fit twin scroll with twin gates and if/when i finish it i realy need it to be worth the investment over single scroll.

the “theory” behind it might warrant a better throttle response and flow, but in practice, unless you get an equal, and i mean equal amount of pulses and at a consistent rate going between those volutes, it really doesn’t serve its “purpose”. at that point, at least in my build, i became nervous of negative effects, and said screw it and made my manifold into a single flow. i’ve had no issues so far.

twin scroll is old, the new anti lag is a vnt turbo…

i understand the theory however im concerned with packaging 3 runners per divider and just seam awefully restricive when compared to a single with all the open space.

i know… i guess you didn’t understand what i was trying to say… with all that being said, i just threw it out the window and combined my pipes (since i have two banks going into one turbo) to have a single flow going through a dual volute. in a perfect world of utilizing the split housing the way it was intended to be used, i think the gains would be negligible. so i’m with you on this one.

this is mine… different application, same idea:

(only pic i can show of the turbine inlet)

the gains are worth it imo, especially with a big laggy turbo

you dont have to run 2 wastegates, you can combine the wg runners into one and run a single gate if you have the space, or 2 tial 38mm mvs (i believe thats what the new vband 38’s are called) and they help alot with space

from what ive seen with alot of builds is that its actually easier building the split setup as you only need to make a collector of 3 pipes into each tang instead of a 6 pipe collector

if it were me and i had the skills i would absolutely do it

ah, so your did 8-2-1 collector. I was trying to picture 8 runners going to a single merge and just couldnt see it. I guess i could do 6-2-1 but at this point i think i may be just trying to hard for something that just wont matter. i may just do a 6-1 like usual after all.

is the turbo actually twinscroll, or just divided housing?

I hope this helps you. it’s a prototype BMW I6 Mani fullrace is working on, i dont know what model, but the design should work for your car

dude, that thing will NEVER work in a e36 chassis. probably e30 since there is many more room.

i was more-so saying the design of the runners to the turbo flange for the divided part and the clyinders they were corresponding with rather than the actual shape of the manifold and whether or not it will fit lol
