# So, Ice Racing.......

I’ve been playing around with the idea but it seems like the local stuff is only;
**Central New York Ice Racing Association** [http://www.cnyira.com/](http://www.cnyira.com/)
and
**Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club** [http://www.icerace.com/](http://www.icerace.com/)
The no contact rule for the unstudded street class is probably one of the biggest selling points. They also hold a time trail, Solo II style events as well.
Any other local regions our there? I tried OH and PA.
Even if I don’t make it behind the wheel, this seems like the event to watch…

> Once again we have decided to host a new exhibition class called the “Historic Class” to showcase some of those classic Saab, Volvo, Datsun, Citroen, Chevy, Ford, VW, MG, Subaru, Mini, Fiat, Porche, etc. ice racing cars like the one’s from our past. **The new Historic class will be run on the Saturday of the biggest ice racing event of the season, the two day Lake George Winter Carnival weekend on February 24th and 25th.** There will be an abbreviated schedule for all regular classes to ensure plenty of seat time for your Historic class ice racer. Once again it will look like 1969 out there all over again!

I looked in ontario a few weeks ago, I found these guys:

but it’s 5+ hours away, and they don’t race on a lake, they freeze water on the fairgrounds.
AMEC looks promising, I’m going to keep an eye on their schedule

Besides CASC allows contact, requires a prepped car (no street car, must remove headlights…)
I have freinds that live in Albany and almost every AMEC event is 1/2 hour away from there.

closer but NO ice.
on the other hand, the 10-day forecast for Wells, NY doesn’t have any highs above 26 degrees, that should be enough cold weather to get a few more inches of ice on Lake Algonquin by next weekend!

Man, that was inspiration. The tow vehicles that he used, shows how much you can do with realitively little.
Makes me want to make sure I am behind the wheel every weekend of my life.

**\> Update 1/30/07 -** The 2007 race schedule has been changed to reflect the current ice conditions at the previously scheduled lakes. Round Lake is no where near ready for this coming weekend so we will once again be trying to run at Lake Algonquin in Well's, NY. Next weeks races are now scheduled to be run on Caroga Lake if conditions will allow. We will be checking on Lake Algonquin on Wednesday of this week to see how it is coming along. We are very hopeful that the conditions will allow us to finally get our season underway but as always A.M.E.C.'s first priority is the safety of our members and competitors and as such we will always be diligent in checking all aspects of the lake to ensure safe racing and viewing conditions. Check back later in the week as we will update everyone on the ice conditions and prospects of going racing this week.
