Good point, if you leave it squeezed after putting the cap on.

On a side note…
Have you ever closed a water/soda bottle on a plane(on or off of a tread mill)?
When you land the bottle is “crushed” from the air pressure on Earth.
Or take a bag of chips on a plane - the bag inflates - Yes I am easily amused.
(Just something I have learned in my travels.)

hahah as far as it being on its side the problem comes in that when the bottle is stood in the upright position the gas is not going to mix with the efficiency as it would when the bottle was inverted completely. When a pop is produced it is infused with the CO2 by literally raining the syrup down plates which release the gas (which rises through the falling syrup) The same kind of thing applies to our bottle here, just not with the same efficiency. I will have to find some diagrams somewhere online about this…

as far as my NASA work goes its very :snky: though I will say it involves dial-up and a space shuttle

why dont you and your dad take 3 bottles an see what happens lay one on its side stand one on its top and then one on its base, leave sit for 3 months and then subject a random family member and have them taste test each one. IF they can tell the difference then you may have some kind of valid result. Or simply email mythbusters an see if you can make them do it for you

yes, because i’m sure you are doing side by side tests in your fridge all the time. Trust me, it will go flat faster with your method.

Experiment. We will use agitation to simulate aging.

We’ll use two half filled two liters. Squeeze out all of the air in one and not the other. Shake both bottles. Let stand a few hours. Besides the fact that they both will now be “uncrushed” the one that was initially uncrushed will have a higher pressure inside the bottle.

I do.

Then I put it in the dishwasher and assay for dissolved carbon dioxide.

Who gives a shit… just drink it… If you are normal… drink it… buy another bottle… no need to save YEARS of pop/soda in your basement for the Neuclear Hollocost… and even then Who gives a shit if it’s flat or not…
I believe that storing on side / top down will make a difference… but not for a LONG time… If you are normal and drink the bottle within a year then it wont matter… if you are a “collector” store on side or upside-down.

You guys are really trying to make this thread into the plane/treadmill theory lol

Notice that everyone is trying to ignore these posts…

if everyone is sitting on a plane with laptops and they have a wi-fi connection from the airport and they are all trying to ignore my posts on nyspeed and the plane is on a treadmill and the treadmill can spin at infinity+1, will the plane take off if we drink a bunch of pop…sideways.

> Funny you should bring this up because i had an opened bottle on its side and when i opened it the other day it let off alot more gas then normal. I found it kind of odd. I think it may keep the gasses in the bottle better but they are just going to escape at the same rate once the bottle is opended again. An already sealed bottle i would imagine its side will keep it longer.

thats cuz it was shaken when you picked it upright most likely…

as for which would allow more co2 to escape, that would be upright, gas molecules are far tinier than liquid molecules… provided that the tops were equally tight… upright would have a greater tendency to release more gases therefor losing more pressure… ie going flat…

and newmans post on uncrushed vs crushed = absolutely correct… i didnt read the whole thread… im just agreeing cuz its accurate

This doesn’t surprise me, as I have a friend who works for NASA, and he’s told me some of the things he has built/tested, but really?

The ways money gets spent blows my mind.
