Any idea why the #5 chamber & #3 piston look different than the others?

cause you don’t run it hard enough!

did you ever do a compression test on it after you had finished it?

No, I didn’t do a compression test. It did start to use oil though.

This is the engine out of your firebird right? I’ve seen overcarbed engines do that before, where the primarys are dumping fuel into certain cylinders depending on how its setup, but that wouldn’t make any sense if its fuel injected.

From what I can see of the walls they seem okay, but I can’t rotate the assembly to check them. Don’t know about the rings. Have to get it torn apart.

If there’s a problem with the rings it kind of doesn’t matter since i’m getting a new short block, but I’d still like to know. In case it’s something else.

They were just decked 0.010 last year. Don’t want to take too much off!

What would be possible causes? Too much fuel? Oil getting in? :dunno:

Took the pan off yesterday and there were a few pieces in there. Didn’t have time to get the rest apart.

They look like they sealed but I wouldn’t write that off as the problem. I (and several other people) had probelms with the coating on the Mr. Gasket head gaskets sticking to the packaging. I drove to Summit to try and get two good ones.

Did you identify where that metalic material is coming from, looks “tinny” in the pic, not like a ring bearing, piston chuck, etc…

Whatever it is, there’s a shredded piece of it stuck between the number 3 rod & the crank:
[Piece of Metal](http://home.comcast.net/~saccani/DSC02101.JPG)

And is this what the windage tray looks like. Is it just a single piece of formed metal? No bottom piece to it or anything?
