Here’s my next project. Big brake upgrade. I’m putting 300zx 4 piston calipers on my Spec to replace the factory single piston. They bolt right on and work with the Spec’s front rotors, with a slight mod to the rotors. I have new stainless steel conversion lines coming, so I’m almost ready to swap. Here’s some pics to give you an idea:
New 4 piston “Nissan” caliper:

Factory single piston caliper:

New 4 piston:

Note, caliper is on wrong side! OOOOPS! bleed screw goes to top, lol.

Awsome James. I get my calipers back Monday. Stock breaks suck. Do you have ABS?

Yes I do, but apparently it works with these calipers. In the thread I read, the person who did this mod had no issues. So hopefully all will go smoothly.

so you are not going to get bigger rotors?

hopefully you have lots of stopping power now!

This setup will work with the oem’s. It would be hard to find a larger rotor than 11" in a 4 bolt as well. The only other rotors I know of is either Brembo’s (waayyy too expensive) or 350z, but both would require relocation of the caliper not to mention having to re drill lug holes in the 350’s.

I’m only saying that because I get a better deal on OEM vs Brembo, plus the OEM’s are more readily available. If I could I would love to go to Brembo’s, but not in the budget right now ☹

If you mean master cyl., then yes. The 300zx’s is only 1/8" bigger, so no significant difference. Just need to add more fluid to compensate for the larger calipers. On the flip side, my car is also lighter than a 300, so less clamping force is needed to achieve the desired effect. Apparently you can bring the front wheels to full lock with this conversion.

get larger rotors please or else you wont truly feel alot more braking force. Something like this

I like your thinking, I would except it isn’t necessary. According to what I’ve researched, the N/A z32 rotors are the same size only wider. Plus I would also be looking at having to fabricate some sort of relocation bracket to move the caliper further out from the hub. The Z32 pads are also larger than the stock Spec’s and cover way more of the rotor than the OEM’s. Being able to lock the front brakes finally is good enough for me, I may look at upgrading rotors when these ones wear out, putting my money towards my turbo kit now which will hopefully be here in a couple of weeks.

Good conversion Just be aware that you;ll be more suseptable to Brake Fade when they get super hot on Autocrass tracks. I’ve done conversions similar to this on our enforcment trucks and we are see a fairly substantial change in the heat distribution with the stock size rotors. More brake pad = More friction= more heat. Bigger rotors give you more surface area for heat dispersion. Just something to think of and keep in mind

Cheers

All my parts are here! Will be doing the conversion today. Pics of the new calipers and stainless braided conversion lines:

After this conversion my stopping distance has been cut in half. ABS works fine with no problem whatsoever. I’ll post up some more pics after I wash the car, it looks even better with the wheels on.
