# Sr backfire

My SR is backfiring at 1,500rpm. Usually when I am slowing down, and leave the car in gear it does this. The backfiring is pretty damn loud, as my cat is blown out and it pisses me off. Any suggestions, ideas on how to fix it etc?

probably timing.

Popping and backfiring is usually a result of running to rich. The unburnt gas ignites inside the exhaust causing all the noise.

i thought it was running rich too…but it always does this at 1500rpm. it also pops after the bov goes off, because it is not recirculated. I will check the timing and try to fix that first.

Tighten down your BOV a little more. The decel-‘pop’ happens on every SR with improperly adjusted BOV. I think you’ll find your timing is fine.

Hey,

Did you ever fix this problem?  
Because I am having the exact same problem with my stock (no SR) 95 240.

Was it due to running rich?

Any other ideas or thoughts on this?
