# Sr problem

HI

I have a Nissan pulsar GTIR with a SR20DET and it sounds like the timing chain is rattling around or there is something in my alternator. Every time I rev the motor I hear the rattle coming from the timing cover area…. If the chain, tensioner /idler and guides need to be changed will this happen???

open up the cover and take a look because if your timing belts going get it replaced or kiss the motor bye bye

If you think its your alt. take the belt off and start it up… see if the noise is still there

and skyline guy the SR has a timing chain. not belt lol. But im sure you knew that lol…😉

I don’t think it’s the valves it’s pretty loud…

If it varies with the revs, check your crank pulley. That’s what happened to me. I though it was the alternator as well, since it was coming from the alternator/timing cover area. I had to learn the hard way when I was left stranded on the side of the road. The bolt sheared and the pulley fell off. Hopefully it’s not that but just a heads up.
