Pro’s and Con’s

Pretty much, i’m just looking at some advice on using an SR sidemount setup.
Doesn’t mean I AM going with a sidemount, just considering the possibility and would like some further guidance on it.
What EXACTLY am I loseing, or causing by going this route, and what needs to be done to modify the piping (if any) for the KA using a bottom mount.

Pics of anyones setup using such, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Mike

Any front mount setup is better than hidden under front fender intercooler.
Although not everybody like to show big intercooler in the front. There is a post in todays Parts For Sale section about clever, hidden and also very efficient intercooler on a budget.

I saw that, not really interested in it.

**Oh and also it will be behind the usdm grills rather than the dtrls.**

First of all, it’s a direct bolt on if you plan on going with a stock T25/T25 bottom mount setup. You can use an SR hotpipe, it will work. Also, the coldpipe from a stock SR SMIC setup is a direct bolt on too. The only thing you need to do is cut the area where your stock airbox resonator is.

That area has been cleaned up btw… it’s not that ghetto anymore 🙂

Also, if you want your SMIC to be really efficient, what you want to do is add ducting, I made up some ghetto ducting last year but it seems to be working well as I run 12 psi all day long at the track. Keep in mind, I also run an ARC sidemount intercooler. Here’s a pic of it:

As you can see in this pic… the 2 bolts on the left are a direct bolt on, but we just made an “L” bracket mount for the SMIC to make sure that it’s a lot more secure.

You don’t have to go all the way with the ducting but I’d recommend that you at least have the stock ducting. Btw, the JDM grills help with the ducting as well as there’s something that directs the air to the ducting.

And you aren’t “losing” anything by going this route, I think it’s great actually. Most people go FMIC for the looks, it’s one of those things that people do first when they have a turbo car. FMIC + Blow off valve, that’s all that matters.

My car made 252 lb/ft and 248whp @ 13 psi with my sidemount. Stock MAF, Stock Injectors, full exhaust. AEM EMS.

Good luck.

So pretty much, the entire SR smic setup will definatly bolt on directly for my bottom mount for my KA. Does that include the 2 hose’s to the right of the throttle body (small hose, and the iacv hose)?

</div>

it’s only a direct bolt on if the turbo sits in the exact same spot as it would on the sr

it basically depends on how the ka turbo manifold places the turbo compared to an sr turbo manifold

Walter had a bottom mount manifold on his ka-t setuP and had a t25, everything was a direct bolt on. He even used an Sr downpipe.
