hey i was just wondering if steering wheels (aftmarkt) are illegal for street use??? does anyone know the law and the fine for it??? thanx ---

If you don’t hook the horn up to work again it is illegal for street use. If you remove your AirBag it is illegal for street use. (AFAIK) So basically if you have an S14 which you do, it is illegal. If you have an S13 just make sure you hook up the horn and you’re fine. ---

afaik the airbag thing is like going 25 over. you might get booked you might not. from personal experience none of my friends or i have been hassled about the airbag situation but i have heard stories about that being a problem. Depends how much you believe in stories… as for the horn - as long as it works i think that should be okay… i hate my S14 steering wheel too :P. ---

Damn… stupid airbag, and i guess i should get my horn reattached (it seems to have disconnected after a particularly hard usage haha. ---

i believe if you remove the airbag all you have to do is go to the mto, tell them and pay like 10 bucks. thats what my friend with a volkswagon had to do anyways (i dont know the specific rules tho) ---

YOU DO NOT NEED AN AIRBAG IN CANADA! ok, that said, you can tell a manufactuer when you buy the vehicle you don’t want one and it’s leagal to drive in canada. Removing one as far as i know is legal, unless the cops a prick. But not having one in the car even if it’s new IS leagal. if you don’t belive go to ford, gm, chrysler, etc and ask. ---

And you got this info from where? Removing any factory SRS is Illegal, weather it be airbag, seatbelts etc… ---

Heh I read the HTA prior to your linking that… couldn’t find diddly on removal being illegal. Sale of rebuilt air bags prohibited Rebuilding air bags prohibited Installation of rebuilt air bags prohibited That’s all I could find on airbags period. ---

Air bags are not legal to take out, You can have them “DISABLED” By the dealers For medical or safty reasons, IE: You are to short and have to sit to close, or anything like that. They have to be done by a dealer and it has to be a locked switch. ---

If you didn’t have an airbag to begin with, it’s not illegal. If you DID have one, then it’s a gray area and it depends on the cop. ---

taking the airbag out is NOT illegal… insuring it with the airbag taken out will get you BLACKFLAGGED… so its not illegal, but dont do it.
