A House committee Thursday created a bill that would upgrade the charge for drag racing to a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by fines of up to $1,000 and a year in jail - a move they intend to serve as a deterrent to kids who gun their cars down country roads or through marked courses. It’s already a second-degree misdemeanor to drag race, punishable by fines between $250 and $500 and up to 60 days in county jail. Under the proposal, officials would also seize cars used in drag races. Anyone charged with drag racing twice in a five-year span would face a third-degree felony, including penalties of up to five years in state prison and maximum fines of up to $5,000. The bill that cleared the House Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee specifies two types of drag racing - side-by-side races or time trials around a marked course. “We have a serious problem out here with our children,” said Rep. Sandra Adams, R-Orlando. “We have a nice country road that people seem to like to race down.” A similar bill (SB 2472) is already moving through the Senate. :eek: :eek: :bsflag: you get this for street racing but you get a lesser of a charge for bamnging your neighbors daughter ---

the bill sucks… but if i race someone i am so slow i will not even break the speed limit ---

uhhh, this makes no sense. Why would federal legislators be in on this? Stuff like this is dealt with strictly on a state level. Also, just because a bill is introduces, it still has to be passed by the senate and the house, and then signed into law by George W Douche. ---

I;m missing the whole point with time trials on a marked corse? isn’t a marked corse usually considered AUto X and is held by a orginization Legally? :rolleyes: ---
