my girlfriend has a 2000 legacy wagon with the 6 cylinder and the headgaskets blew and im just curious for her sake how much its going to cost to fix this at a dealership…i was thinking around 1500 tops for parts and labor…any one have an idea or can give me a general amount that this would go for?thanks… ---

depends. they will probably want to replace the head too. ---

That sounds about right, I’ve got the 2.5 in mine and had the entire bottom end rebuilt for about $2500. They’ve got to pull the motor to put the head gaskets in, so it’s not really an easy job. While in there you minus whale have them do the water pump and timing belt if she plans to keep it. ---

dealership, headgaskets and 1500 dollars dont go together in a sentence, unless of course you mean 15000$ then id believe you if youd like a rec. for a shop pm me ---

I think I remember for like 2500 you can buy a whole new motor to throw in there. Don’t quote me on that. I know people use 2.5 subaru motors for airplane engines as well. That’s where I found that price. I rebuilt my motor, EJ25, for ABOUT 1400.00. and that was completely doing it myself replacing everything that needed to be replaced for regular maintenance. Your best bet it to get a complete good running low mileage junk yard motor and throw it in yourself. Pulling a motor on that car is relatively easy. If you’re good and have no issues you can have it done in a day. ---

They’re probably going to want to send the heads to a machine shop to have them checked. I don’t think you’ll get away for $1,500 at a dealer. I’d look into other shops before a dealer. ---

The head should be sent to a machine shop to be checked because if the head is warped or gasket mating surface isn’t cleaned up it’s just going to blow again. I’ll PM an estimate.
