So i have money to burn and i’m looking into some entry level forced induction, i don’t want to go turbo right now because its a pretty big hassle with all of the piping and routing of oil lines etc. And it would be out of my budget for the time being.

That said, i’m at a toss up between a roots type weiand supercharger, and a vortech supercharger. Has anyone used either? Pros / Cons?

I’ve considered a procharger but as of right now its out of budget

two models i was looking at

Weiand:

I’ve always been a fan of the roots type, for no reason other than the sound. You should probably work on traction and a beefier rear diff first, the Z is already shit your pants fast.

^^its a gen 1 smallblock.

op, what compression are you running?

my friends dad has a 355ci gen 1 with huge afr heads, forged everything, 6-71 blower, 300 horse nitrous plate ontop of the blower, then twin pots on top for the fuel injection.

lots of money but would make the turbo lsx’s on here look silly. absolutely rediculous. the downside is he had to fill the water jackets with block crete to hold the block together.

you can build an NA gen 1 small block for cheaper and have more power then the supercharger kits youre looking at. hell even a 350ci with stock gm heads a wieand dual plane intake, 9:1 compression and a 2 barrel carb in a streetstock class engine ive seen 331hp and 403ftlbs on pump gas. its all about putting the right combination together.

What? An extreme build like that the price point is negligible anyways if you go LTx, LSx, SBC

Also at that point things like 6 bolt mains etc, head design, etc become important.

$3000 limit for the blower or the entire build?? I don’t think a lot of people realize how
expensive FI is.

edit : Huh??

what i meant is that the amount of power the motor makes is greater then any of the boosted lsx’s that have been on here. his motor has splayed endcaps, however as i said the motor is making so much power that its tearing the block apart, which is why its been filled with block crete.

no shit stronger internals and better head design become important. obviously the newer motors are a better design, however thats not what were discussing here.

op,
joes truck has a aftermarket block and a blow thru carb. big heads, shaft mount rockers, and a procharger. however that truck is quite a bit heavier then what your car weighs. if i were you i would look at changing up the top end. theres more power to be had.

So you’re comparing some car you don’t own to the handful of boosted LSx cars on NYSpeed?

Cool story

You’re right its not what we are discussing…

The topic is a cheap/budget supercharger setup not how someone else has 100000HP 355ci that can smoke on LSx on this forum.

Check yellowbullet and other forums you can probably grab a used vortech setup pretty cheap.

Your budget is really low to go FI why don’t you look at NA options? Going cheap FI just ends up with broken parts.

um, no. its a boosted gen 1. it is on topic. quit being an internet tough guy and go play with your f body’s.

op, when i had my gen 1 small block this is what the setup was:

355ci, 11.8:1 static compression
summit 200cc aluminum heads (aka brodix ik200’s)
full roller, cam was a roller .540/.562 lift 242/248 @ .050 duration, 110 lobe seperation, adjustable timing chain
holley strip dominator intake with 1" phenolic spacer, 750cfm carb
msd hei distributor.

ran pretty damn good in a 2900 lb truck with a manual trans.

edit. tony barker race engines built a 383 with the ik200’s and made 568hp and 542 ftlbs. similar combination to mine but just a bit more displacement.

The Final Tuning Before the Last Run 37 deg Timing
After the First Pull on the Engine, the Power was Taking a dip Around 5000 rpm From Valve Float Between 5000-5600 rpm Then Smoothed up After 5600 rpm. We Upgraded the Valve Springs From the COMP CAMS 987-16 to the COMP CAMS 977-16 to Solve the Valve Float With Great Results.
Dyno Pulled From 2500-6500 rpm
Peak Power 568 hp at 6000 rpm
Peak Torque 542 ft-lb at 4700 rpm
Horsepower is Over 400 at 4000 rpm
Over 450 hp at 4400 rpm
Over 500 hp at 4800 rpm
568 hp at 6000 rpm
562 hp at 6500 rpm
Torque is Over 400 ft-lb at 3200 rpm
Over 450 ft-lb at 3400 rpm
Over 500 ft-lb at 3900 rpm
Over 540 ft-lb From 4600-4900 rpm
Still 497 ft-lb at 6000 rpm
All on Pump Gas
