# Supercharging A D16

how come i never see any supercharged d16’s? If i found a JRSC and upgraded injectors and had an 8 psi pulley would i still have to get an obd1 ecu and get it chipped and tuned or is there any ways around that?

for how much it cost you can just go b series and make the same power but more reliable

because supercharging a D is like building an all motor D…while it can be done it’s like trying to fill a swimming pool with a squirt gun.
have you seen numbers that stock d16’s make supercharged on 8psi from a JRSC? i’m talking like 170whp and 126 ft. lbs. torque…pitiful for the money spent, and that was on d16y8’s and d16z6’s. heaven help the poor sap that bolts on of those up to a b7 or the like.
IMHO, cars that make no torque cannot spare a parisitic power adder, it’s just dumb really.
If you plan on Saving the SOHC…you better do it turbo-style.

I believe the quote I heard was “everything is junk”, but it’s along the same lines and we’re mincing words here.
And, sadly, supercharging a D is like fist-fucking a pregnant woman. At first it seems like a good idea, but when things go wrong you realize you’ve lifted and separated the head.

Aside from what was said, cost is an issue here as well. You can have a far bigger bang for your money with a snail, no question. IF you play your card right you could pick up a b18b, a turbo kit, and tune it for about the same amount as supercharging/aftercooling, and heading down that path.
