im going to be coating my manifold/downpipe soon… so in order to avoid having to do this twice ive been doing a lil more research to make sure my current turbo is up to what i need

my current turbo is a Turbonetics T3/t4 50 Trim

here is the map of a GT35R

how much is the differance in spool up time?

both turbos are very well suited to my engine size

(if anybody wants to do the plotting my Bore is 3.26 and stroke is 3.61)

is it worth the price of the upgrade? im happy with the current spoolup, i dont see how it COULD be faster but i guess it could…

im looking for around 500 WHP on highboost id like to stay on pumpgas for bragging rights but whatver if it is on race gas

the GT series DEFINATELY spool up faster and its very noticable. they boast full spool by 2200rpms direct from garret…what is your redline? id like to plot it out to better answer your question IMO

oh and engine size

these are very different turbos man
1 is capable of 48 lb/min, and the other will do over 60

oh ive already done the plots thats not what im asking for… i just left it up so anybody could do their own plots to respond with proper info…

im just wondering if the GT series is noticably differant in terms of spooolup cuz right now i get full boost of 19psi at 3400

yes it will spool much faster… sort of

it will begin spooling at the same time, but once it starts it hits like a brick.

no, people will see it… and it will keep the meatheads out of it.

as a refernece (sp)

t3/t4 spool up

i think it was at 12psi ish

gt35 on a 2l

running 14 psi

spool up will be faster, and the gt35 will move a lot more air.

GT35/40R will be my next turbo. What kind of pricing are you finding on the 35R? I see them at $1225 shipped, which I couldnt justify compared to the full T4 I picked up for like $600.

If you have the cash get the GT R.

:word:

Viper966 - If your car is only going for track duties, I would not waste money on the R sand save some cash. But if you venture to drive this on the street, the ball bearing will definitely make a difference in response (duh!) so if you can afford it, go with the 35R.

i am going to be purchasing my gt35R very soon for my SHO, looking at those dynbo graphs gets me all worked up because if a smaller displacement engine can spool that turbo by 5500-6200 then my larger 3.2 should be interisting with the 2900 stall converter ![http://www.coracing.com/forum1/html/emoticons/3gears.gif](http://www.coracing.com/forum1/html/emoticons/3gears.gif)it won’t be full boost but should be a pretty good kick in the ass on the launch.

I don’t know much about the SHO stall converters but to get the full utilization of the turbo, you might want to get that stall a bit higher. On my DSM, I have a 4000 stall and I can get full boost at the line (22 - 25 psi)…

You will not find a Garrett GT35R for $800

The best I could do is $1000 and I dont have that connect anymore.

I know who that second dyno was. Boost was instant with the gt35R. For the poltential you will have with the turbo alone makes it worth it.

that is the stock stall and with what i’m about to say you have to rember the sho community if a pretty small one, one of the few boosted ATX’s was recently(2 weeks ago) completed and he was running 330whp for 2 weeks and then he stripped the stator (he did constantly beat the fuck out of it as wil I) out so that is one worry of mine so i wil run a bit less power then him since the TC seems to be the obvious weak point although he is running a built trans with stock TC.

i guess my way of thinking is if a smaler displacement I4 can spool at ~4K than a 3.2 V6 should be able to spool it at a lower rpm and make good boost. i don’t want a higher stall converter because i like the driveability that comes with a lower one but i wil have to get a stronger one probably around mid summer.

Sure, the raw displacement is larger but you have to take into account airflow as well. I have 272 cams, a ported head, SS valves, etc so the airflow might be larger than yours/rev. I am not saying I am going to out spool you or anything but those factors play a big role…
