# The dumbest bike question ever

I’ve been debating getting a bike for a long long long time.
My father rode when I was little, and I believe he still has his license.
anyways.
Can I sign up for all the courses without having a bike, or do I need to have a bike before I go to all the learn how to not be an idiot courses?
is there a limit on courses, can I take them all? do you reccomend them all?
disclaimer: I dont want a 600, or a 1000, or a busa, hell to be honest, I love rockets, but Id honestly perfer an old old rat bike.
Reccomend me an easy to ride bike, perferably light, as I’m a beast and I dont really want a BIG bike.
All these bobber builds are inspiring me, those are my kind of bikes.
Any insight?
I wont be one of those popping wheelies from every stop light idiots.
I just want something I can hop on and cruise.

Just sign up for the msf course. They supply you with a bike, and at the end of it you get the license.

karter, what they said, permit and go sign up. They supply little 250cc cruisers and you’ll leave the course with you lisence.
As for a bike, if you want light, find like an old cb450 or really anything under a 750 and they are all relatively light. Even the pre 78 cb750s that are SOHC are pretty light. I’m rocking an 81 cb750 DOHC and honestly it’s heavy. I’m also a scrawny fuck (145 lbs.) but I manage just fine. My bikes dry weight meaning no fluids/gas is a touch over 500 lbs.

my dad did the course with uhm… ride with pride, is I think what they were called.
he got his permit at the end of the course, and they gave him a bike to dick around on.
didn’t matter if you drop it and shit he said, all the glass and breakables were off it.
was 2-3 days.

awesome, good to know.
I just want to learn it the right way, its awesome that there are this many courses at our disposal.

Yeah Ride with Pride is the course a lot of guys took on here. They have 2 and 3 day courses I believe. I took mine on a Monday and Tuesday all day 8-4 and was good to go.

Just so you know, after completing the ride with pride course, you still need to wait about a month and a half to get the documentation that gives you your license.

For a bike, start with whatever bike you can get for cheap that runs. Get used to it for a year, and get something after that.
What are you looking for out of “just cruising.” That could mean a lot of different things. Do you literally want to cruise around straight roads and not care about ANY type of spirited riding? Get a Harley or similar. Or you could get a sport touring bike and develop a little more thirst for taking turns, without having to jump into a sportbike. And a lot of sport touring bikes are still really comfy for longer rides.

Literally cruise, hop on the bike and go to the store, hit up car shows / meets, just enjoy the nice weather days.
Ideally I’m going to get my father back on a bike, and hopefully we can cruise together? Something to enjoy whatever time he has left with him.
