some people are upset with the protesters and the vandalism.
i am sure out HST dollars will go towards the renovations, paying for the set up and removal of the fence and compensating the riot police for their fine work this weekend.

Watching the news yesterday, an anchor asked a reporter on scene what the people were protesting and he said “well, anything and everything. There are so many different opinions and positions shouting at once that no one gets heard.” lol

Web conference wouldn’t work because of the possibility to be intercepted. But I agree with not advertising it so much. They know how much trouble it causes and it’s like this every fucking time.
What I don’t understand is why they can’t just have it in a very secluded yet military enforced area. Safe and out of the way.

Because then everyone would say “See!!! They have something to hide from us!” - the image of them meeting locked away behind closed doors, either in person or via video conference, would simply increase the paranoia levels.
Even if nothing really comes out of these summits, it’s important for world leaders to get together and have face time. You can’t do everything over the phone or even video conferencing.

Imagine the talk from people like Blue Eyes and Carnut if you ever did that though. All the major government powers meeting at some clandestine military facility. The conspiracy people wouldn’t come out of their bunkers and panic rooms for a month. Wait… maybe that would be a good thing. 🙂
EDIT:
One more thing… How bad is your police budget when you can’t even afford some black paint for your protester whomping stick? That one row of cops that looked like the stopped by home depot and chopped up a bunch of 8 foot dowels was pretty sad looking.

Broadcast it? It’s not like people are getitng inside of these meetings when they are held in cities.

i agree with Paulo.
no one was protesting anything of importance other than the fact that our Gov spent $1B and blocked off a major section of the busiest city in Canada for several days for no good reason.
that is why people are pissed off. When world leaders want to get together they can apparently strip you of your rights in the heart of the biggest city in the country and block you off just so that they can meet face to face?
The whole thing was unnecessary.
If it was done on the hush there would have been limited protesting or curisousity presence and it would not have cost $1B… if they did it up at a military base and allowed protesters to attend in certain areas there would have been no violence. They can truck in the caviar and hookers.

You can’t get bring together 20 of the worlds major economies on the hush. And the political imagery of them meeting on a military installation would be terrible.
