U guys seem to be super smart with this iphone thing, ya i still have atandt, but its not a 3g phone, so i should update it to 2.1 it wont ruin my phone and make things not work? ---

its a way to download a file. google how to download it. that will give you the file you need for your iphone to update it. its the free way of doing it instead of paying Apple $10 to do it through iTunes ---

OK thanks for your help everyone, my ipod is a bit cooler now, any good apps people like to use? I have shazam i like it. i have the video themes thats nice. when i open up Cydia it says changes at the bottom with the stop watch looking icon with a 4 circled in red, now should i update it? ---

Anyone know if they sell the special aux cable to plug this into a cd player? I’ve tried like 4 different ones and it seems the standard aux cable the part that plugs isnt long enough Anyone know of anything? Edit this is on the 1st gen iPhone not the new 3G ---

1st gen used a special plug that was longer so you need one specifically for the 1st gen iPhone. They went to a standard plug on 3g. ---

Good to hear. Check what it wants you to update. Usually the software page has a Change Log on it to let you know what they updated. I usually update anything that has to do with apt, cydia, bsd subsystem, and bash since those are the underlying processes of the phone. Never tried them but people say they are better than coming out of the headphone jack so you dont have to deal with your volume and everything. ---

is there a app that shows the battery life in percentage? I was impressed that my iphone works now in a car i can go on websites and youtube. My youtube is old though from version 1.1.4 and i couldnt find a video my buddy uploaded last night when i searched for it today… kinda weird, do i need to update it too? Any other kool apps? ---

Do you have an iPod or iPhone? There is a Winterboard (application from Cydia that you can theme your layout) that changes the battery to a number instead of a image. Also, there isn’t an update do YouTube. Installing the new 2.X firmware updated any applications that comes with the iphone to that version. I think they resample videos for the iphone so it might take a day or two. You can notice this by watching a video over WiFi which comes in a better quality than one over the cell phone network. ---

Go to bustbuy, they have a lot of stuff that’s “iphone” compatible (and works with standard jacks as well). Got my replacement headphone from there pretty cheap (10.00?) and they work great Red00WS6, no offense man, but 99.9% of your questions could be answered by spending an hour in google or wikipedia and researching. It’s probably a good idea that you know what you’re actually doing if you’re going to be hacking your phone, opposed to knowing how to do it, in case something goes wrong. Go to [modmyi.com](http://modmyi.com) and look at forum posts from last year (right about the time the first generation phones were first jailbroken). You should be able to catch up pretty quick with progression of the modding scene. At that point, if you still have questions, feel free to ask ---

alright, well im not going to be writting any programs and actually hacking the iphone, i do want to unlock cool features the phone has. What i did to get this far in my book is very easy it just seems complex at first because i didnt want to install the wrong thing that could make the phone not work properly. Ill take a look at that site you have up there. Im very happy that the phone seems to work properly now, i bought it and it supposedly was unlocked but for some reason the Edge network didnt work and that sucks. So the phone is working pretty good, im more or less trying to get opinions at this point for what to do next, and if there are any cool apps i should try thanks for all your help ---

App store has some sweet apps and games. [ModMyI.com](http://ModMyI.com) has reviews on apps and opens your eyes to whats out there. I dont explore the AppStore much but there is TONS of free and cheap ($.99) apps. ---
