It’s pretty amazing the amount of taxes NY sucks out of the population and still manages to be broke.
Then look at Texas with no state income tax, lower property tax, etc and the state government manages to have money.

I always fall back on my theory. Try to find a house anywhere else similar to one in Buffalo that is close in price. Hell, I can’t even find another house in Buffalo close to mine for close to the same price.

With the amount of money NY has the roads should be perfect, there should be libraries and playgrounds on ever corner and all intersections should have brass fountains with “The Internationale” playing in the background.

Travel around the country…
You’re also not keeping in mind that here 140-150k house = around $5000 in taxes when somewhere else it might be 2000-3000 if that.

Buddy of mine just (last summer) picked up a $200k house in raleigh, pays $1300/yr in taxes.
Buddy of mine just (this winter) picked up a $200k house in Amherst, pays almost $9k/year in taxes.

Pretty much this. I mean just look at the food trucks…charging the same permit fee as if it were Chicago or NYC? Local Business owners really need a break, from NYS. It may not be cheap to live here, but you can make 30k and live comfortably in Buffalo.

I had seen one on TV and figured it was a ‘Please stop leaving Buffalo, it’s not as bad as the internet says.’ ad.

That is like saying that you have a house in the city of Buffalo comparing to Amherst. Despite popular opinion, the crime rate in the city of Raleigh is pretty high compared to popular opinion. Also, the school system in Raleigh isn’t that good either if you have kids, you need to add in that expense. If you are a single person or married and no kids, it isn’t bad.

The suburbs of Raleigh have good schools
The idea that southern schools are bad is like using Buffalo public schools as an indicator for all the schools in Amherst, Clarence, Orchard Park.
Crime in Raleigh is much lower then Buffalo…
