most diesels now are required to pass what is called tier 4 emissions, we are seeing it on the agricultural end of business (larger tractors) and I know on road diesels are a few years ahead of off road. Companies can either go the route of urea injection or EGR with a particulate filter.

Both are a pain in the ass, the urea tank needs to be refilled (at least on tractors) once every second or third time you fill up and particulate filters need to go through burn cycles to eliminate carbon build up. With both, if you let the engine go without urea or a filter, the engines de-rate up to 50%
