You are missing alot of the grey area. You can still buy an “assult weapon” from a dealer or a private party AT the dealer… the safe act says you can own them still, you just need to register it on Jan 15th. So I assume (not a good thing with guns now a days) that durring that process the FFL will mandate that you must register the thing with NYS while your there or your not leaving with the firearm. > > I am waiting for Adam or the others to chime in. I am still new at this, but like everything I sift through with fine grain mesh to make sure I am accurate. Wrong. You can not buy them and haven’t been able to buy them since the law came out. Already owned ones can stay but need to be registered.
