Anyone that claims autocross will not make you a better driver on the street is showing their true automotive ignorance. Autocross teaches you the maneuvers that get you out of trouble on the street. 1. Threshold braking. 2. Evasive driving. Dodging the idiot that pulls out in front of you is no different than dodging a cone. They are both basically stationary, and both will require you to swerve at speed and remain in control. ---

A lot of the time I think your posts are very well thought out and witty, but this ^is a pretty dumb statement. Better reaction time, and knowing where the limits of your car are, definitely makes you a better driver. ---

People generally like to believe that their actions are useful. This is more true when they invest a great deal of time an effort. So, if they can somehow justify it with, “Oh, it’s useful \_\_\_\_\_\_\_” then it makes them feel adequate. This has nothing to do with if it makes somebody a better driver.
