# Thinking about buying a jet ski (PWC)

Well I really want to get a jet ski (sea doo) and I found one locally for 2k. It is a 1997 Sea Doo XP - 110hp - 2 seater
The jet ski comes with:
- Trailer with new lights and tires
- A new engine with 6 to 7 hours - the dealership they bought it from place a new engine in the Sea Doo before the sale (2007)
- The only engine part that needs to be placed to be a like new jet ski is the shaft - owners told me it doesn’t need to be replaced
- The gauge cluster works
- Exterior is very nice as told - a patch had to be made on the bottom of the ski.
- Jet Ski was bought from the dealer in 07 and 800.00 dollars were made in new parts - they say they have receipts
- There reason for selling - currently use the boat and can’t take both at the same time
- [NADA.com](http://NADA.com) says that average retail without trailer is 2150
All I need to do is get a cover.
Does anybody know anything about PWC prices???

Chime in flykid006, hes has alot of knowledge on jet skis. To me it almost seems like its a constant problem, I may be wrong but you never know. That patch on the bottom probably means that thing hit a rock or launch ramp… IDK im sure there are people with way more knowledge of these things on here as well.

I have only drove Kawasaki jetskis at my Dad’s in Florida. I replace the motor in his 01 750 for him when I was down there, they can be a pain to work on just because of the space. I wouldn’t buy one that has a patch put on the bottom. 2k seems like a lot for a 97, could be the market up here. if you are up for traveling you can get newer ones in Florida for about the same price.

I have a Yamaha Waveraider 1100cc around the same year. Im sorry, I don’t remember. Its also 110hp, less than 100 hours, 2 place. Pretty fast (60mph) and fun to ride. I will be selling it in the spring. Let me know if you are interested. Have trailer.

Look up redvengex or something like that. If Im not mistaken he was looking to sell some of his jet ski’s last summer. Might still want to. Worth a look.

I’ve rode that ski before and I didnt really think it was all that great. However, that is a decent price. Theres alot of weight up front due to the engine being in the front compartment on that particular model. In general, their a lot of fun, but be prepared for problems. If you dont have money to put into it, then don’t bother, or buy a new 4-stroke. FWIW, my 1200 slx seized the crank with about 10 hours on a rebuild.

motors take a shit from inadequate premix lubrication. Keep in mind you may need to drop about $1200 for a rebuild sometime soon… all depends how the guy took care of it and if he knows what he is doing.

'01 Seadoo RX signing in.
Buying an older stand-up for this season too, since I didn’t get around to it last summer.
On topic: Older XP’s can be a blast. The gen before the OP’s pictures are so unstable it’s great. Never rode that gen though. Either way you go (stand up or sit down) you won’t regret it IMO.

The 2 and 4 strokes are not comparable. I’m planning on buying a Honda f12x this spring, but I’m keeping my SLX also. The 4-strokes are nice, but not the best choice for riding in 5ft rollers.
