Yesterday morning I started my car and I heard a ticking noise , that was the 1st time I was noticing the noise . When the car is idling or been rev in park there is no noise , only noticeable while driving . Also seems to be coming from the front of the car . I then checked the oil , was fine . The car has a SOHC with 180.000 km on it. On my way back from st cat today , I noticed that the noise was a bit louder , loud enough to drive you crazy if driving without the radio. I read on the board and usually the symptom for a bad timing chain guide are a rattle noise during start up that get progressivly worse . Mine is a constant rattle whenever the car is in motion ( sound like marble in a can ) . What could he be ? Maybe a crack exhaust manifold ? Any sujestion on what to look for :?: ---

broken slackside guide most likely, especilly if it gets louder and louder…whats happening is the chain is hitting a little metal dowel, and sending metal shavings into your motor…not to mention all the little plastic bits floating in the pan…man fixing that chain sucks… ---

Found the problem. It’s an exhaust leak. One if the downpipes has a small crack in it . Making it sound like a timing chain rattle. That may also explain the lost of performance I encounter lately. ---

theres a huge flaw in whjat u just said , you saidd “.and if that bus went over that SPEED…it would explode.” don’t you mean if it slowed down beyond a cetain speed ---
